There is so much speculation about 2012. The Mayan calendar ends on Dec. 21st, 2012, that is why many have called it the 'end of times'. But, a calendar ending on a particular date does not mean that it is THE END for everything else, as a friend assumed when I mistakenly answered some question from him about 2012 by saying "Oh, yes, according to the Mayan calendar, it is the end of times". He went crazy for about a week....

As it has been said, the doomsday theories are Western(Christian?) ideas, not Mayan. Just like the Y2K speculation, or the same in 1900 when the people on New Year's Eve went to the churches looking for shelter and expecting the worst.

After all it is Western (Hollywood) that movie called '2012', representing an apocalyptic catastrophe in this planet due to... an asteroid?, and another one (this one is more Christian) called 2012 Doomsday. As usual, pop moviemakers and media look to profit on the people's worst fears just like they have done before with 'Independence Day', 'Armageddon', 'The day after tomorrow', 'The Omen' 1, 2, 3..., and sensational "news" and 'facts', just to mention a few ones.

Obviously in '2012' (and I've just seen the trailer, but I've seen other by the same director), the whole planet is affected by something totally out of control and the main stars, victims, heroes and saviours are from the US, of course.

The facts are that, as identified several thousands of years ago by many different cultures, on Dec. 21st (at 11:11 UTC for 2012, sh*t!), as in every year, the summer solstice for the southern hemisphere and the winter solstice for the northern hemisphere happens. But solstices are only astronomical events which happen twice a year. So, why the ancient Mayans stopped counting then? Only they know, not even the modern Mayans, but the date happens to be that one because of their calendar is solar-based.

I find it quite difficult to believe about an asteroid hittting the planet on that particular date as well, as well of some other random event happening. Or something as espectacular as in the movies occurring, whatever it is. But it is not impossible, anyway.

However, I find more plausible that Earth is going to be affected by solar storms, which are supposed to be on a peak around that time. The worst thing that can happen is a unprecendent solar storm causing electrical shortages, loss of digital information, malfuntioning of electrical and electronic devices, including mobiles and computers. Does it sound any similar to the Y2K issue?

Anyway, the electromagnetic solar storm has to be more than HUGE for something like that to happen, but chances exists since electrical systems have been affected by solar storms in the past. In addition, it is argued as well, that a solar cycle is ending, that the sun will be aligned with the centre of the galaxy by then, even causing a super-fast planetary pole shift.

I do not believe that simply we will be on the previous day and not anymore the next.... Like ... snap! I have heard Channels (spiritual, not media) say it is about transition, and psychics/clairvoyants say there is a curtain not allowing to see beyond. Or even more, according to a story I knew about recently "everybody ... was "gone", having left their bodies behind".

Other interesting information about this is reaching a new level of awareness according to changes in intensity of the Earth's electromagnetic field. According to that theory, the planet will reach a particular level of electromagnetic activity then. Considering that many animals behave according to the earth's electromagnetic field and that humans are, after all, rational animals, it makes sense.

So, in the end anything and nothing can happen then or now, and instead of thinking about what you will not be able to achieve after 2012, the best thing you can do is keep on living and enjoy life as you want to live.

Hay mucha especulación acerca del año 2012. El calendario maya termina en Diciembre 21 de 2012, por eso muchos lo han llamado 'el fin de los tiempos'. Pero, que un calendario termine en una fecha particular no significa que sea EL FIN para todo lo demás, como un amigo asumió cuando yo le respondí por error "Ah, si, el calendario maya termina ahí, es el fin de los tiempos". El tipo quedo loco por una semana....

Como se ha dicho, las teorías apocalípticas son cuento occidental (cristiano?), no mayas. Igual que la especulación ante la llegada del a~no 2000, o en 1900 cuando la gente paso la noche de Año Nuevo en las iglesias buscando refugio y esperando lo peor.

Después de todo, es occidental (de Hollywood) la película '2012', que representa una catástrofe apocalíptica en este planeta debido a... un asteroide?, y otra (esta es mas cristiana) llamada 2012 Doomsday. Como es costumbre, los cineastas populares y los medios buscan el negocio tras los peores miedos de la gente así como han hecho con 'El día de independencia', 'Armageddon', 'El día después de mañana', 'La profecía' 1, 2, 3..., y "noticias" o 'hechos' sensacionalistas, solo por mencionar algunos.

Obviamente en '2012' (solo he visto los cortos, pero he visto otras películas del mismo director), el planeta entero es afectado por algo totalmente fuera de control y las principales figuras, victimas, héroes y salvadores son de los Estados Unidos, por supuesto.

Los hechos son que, como supieron diferentes culturas milenarias, en diciembre 21 (a las 11:11 UTC para 2012, jo'er), como cada año, el solsticio de verano para el hemisferio sur y el solsticios de invierno para el hemisferio norte sucede. Pero los solsticios son solo eventos astronómicos que pasan dos veces al año. Entonces, porque los antiguos mayas dejaron de contar ahi? Solo ellos saben, y ni siquiera los modernos mayas, pero la fecha resulta ser esa por que el calendario esta basado en el ciclo solar.

No puedo creer que ademas un asteroide nos caiga encima justo en esa fecha, así como que otro tipo de evento aleatorio ocurra. O algo tan espectacular como en la película, sea lo que sea. Aunque no es imposible....

Sin embargo, me parece mas creíble que la Tierra sea afectada por tormentas solares, las cuales se suponen van a estar en un máximo para esa época. Lo peor que puede pasar es una tormenta solar sin precedentes causando cortes de energía, perdida de información digital, mal funcionamiento de aparatos eléctricos y electrónicos, incluyendo celulares y computadores. Suena similar a los problemas del año 2000?

De todas formas, la tormenta electromagnética solar tiene que ser mas que ENORME para que algo así pase, pero hay posibilidades ya que redes eléctricas y de comunicaciones han sido afectadas por tormentas solares en el pasado. Para rematar, se dice también que un ciclo solar estará finalizando entonces, que el sol estará alineado con el centro de la galaxia causando un cambio de polaridad planetaria extra-rápido.

No creo que simplemente estemos el día anterior y al día siguiente ya no.... simplemente así. He oído que los canales (espirituales, no informativos) dicen que se trata de un cambio, y que los psíquicos dicen que hay una 'cortina' que no permite ver mas allá. Aun mas, de acuerdo con una historia que conocí hace poco "todos ... se 'habían ido/estaban idos', dejando sus cuerpos atrás".

Otra información interesante sobre esto es alcanzar un nuevo nivel de conciencia debido a cambios en la intensidad del campo electromagnético de la Tierra. De acuerdo con esta teoría, para entonces el planeta alcanzara un nivel particular de actividad electromagnética. Considerando que muchos animales se comportan de acuerdo a los campos electromagnéticos del planeta y que los humanos somos, después de todo, animales, esto tiene sentido.

Así, al final todo y nada puede pasar ahora o entonces, y en vez de pensar en lo que no se podrá hacer después del 2012 , lo mejor que se puede hacer es seguir viviendo y disfrutar la vida que se quiere vivir.
